The Doberman Pinscher or Dobermann is one of the most popular dog breeds in the world, the origin of this dog breed is Germany and it is medium to large in size. This breed is developed in 1890 by a tax collector. These dogs are considered one of the most dangerous breeds in the world and also it is the fifth most intelligent dog breed. They are of Fearless, loyal, alert, and confident temperament.

Doberman Pinschers are very protective of their family which makes them good guard dogs. These dogs are working as Military dogs Police dogs (k9 dogs) and Guard dogs in large numbers and they are also good family dogs. This dog breed is also known to adopt aggressive behavior towards strangers and other dogs which is the result of Improper training and Poor socialization but if properly trained and socialized these dogs can be extremely affectionate and friendly.

The appearance of Doberman Pinscher:

Dobermans are famous for their strong and tough looks. They are medium to large in size. They have a Muscular and tough body.  Their ears are naturally triangular in shape but most of the owners get their dog’s owner cropped and erect for traditional strong looks. Their Tail is naturally thin and long but many dog owners get their dog’s tail docked or cut for the looks. They get their tail removed or cut surgically, these procedure is done a few days after the birth of the puppy.

Coat and Color of Doberman Pinscher:

Doberman has a beautiful smooth and glossy coat that looks stunning on them. Their coat is short. Their coat comes in Black, Blue, Fawn, and Red with the markings of Rust on their chest, paws, muzzle, and above eye portion. The most common and main color is Black and Rust combination. Dobermans also come in white color which is rare.

They didn’t require much grooming but the short coat of Dobermans shed moderately so brushing is necessary.

History and Past of Doberman Pinschers

The origin of this breed is Germany and they are developed in 1890. They got their name from the tax collector named Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann.  Karl was from the town Alpoda and there were robbers in that area so tax collecting was a dangerous and difficult job at that time. He starts keeping Doberman for his protection.

In the 1890s after the death of Karl, a breeder named Otto Goeller make changes in this breed and makes it better.

It is regarded that Dobermann is made by crossing many breeds including German shepherds, Rottweilers, Greyhound, Great Dane, German Pinschers, and Black & tan terriers.

Finally in 1900 Doberman Pinschers were officially recognized as a breed.

Health Condition of Doberman Pinschers

Like any other dog breeds, Doberman Pinschers are also prone to some health issues. The average lifespan of a Dobermann dog is 10 to 13 years. Dobermans have a Muscular and powerful body structure. They require daily exercising in order to keep them less aggressive. You can take your dog for long walks, jogging, workout and you can also play with him.

Some common diseases and health problems to which they are prone to are Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Hip dysplasia, Skin infections, Von Willebrand’s disease (VWD), and Wobbler’s syndrome.

Usually, Dobermans are of strong personality, This dog breed considered as Intelligent, Alert, and Protective breed. Dobermans are protective of their family and owner and they are very loyal to its owner. These dogs will never withdraw in any situation to protect its owner. They are of watchful and Alert behavior which makes them a great guard dog. Some of them often adopt aggressive behavior towards strangers and other dogs or pets which is the sign of bad socialization. They can be very Obedient if they are trained properly.

Many people think that Dobermans are a one-person dog which means they are loyal to only one person but they can be affectionate to every family member if they are trained and socialized properly. They are friendly, caring, and loyal in nature which makes them really a good family dog.

Do Dobermans shed their coat?

Although they have short coat Dobermans do shed their coat, They shed their short coat moderately.  They are not known to shed heavily or excessively like other dog breeds like German shepherds. Are Dobermans Dangerous?

Doberman is considered an aggressive dog breed, Some of them becomes aggressive to strangers and other pets. If they are not trained and socialized properly they can be dangerous because they have a tough muscular body and they have a bite force of 305 PSI which is really powerful. But with proper training and good socialization, these dogs can become really friendly and affectionate. Their aggressive and destructive behavior can also be avoided by daily exercise.

Are Doberman pinschers Active and agile?

Yes, Dobermans are really active, they need daily exercising. You can play with them, go for long walks, jog with them, do a workout with them and you can also go hiking with them. A Doberman can run with the speed 32 MPH which is a really great speed.

Can we leave a Doberman alone at home?

No, Dobermans are social dogs that do not like to be alone. If you leave them alone for many hours they may adopt destructive behavior. Doberman Pinscher can also get Separation anxiety which is not good for them. Leaving a Doberman alone can also make him aggressive and stubborn. So if you want a dog that you can leave home alone, then Doberman Pinscher is not the right breed for you.

Does Doberman Pinscher require high Grooming?

Though they shed moderately Dobermans didn’ t require much grooming. They are low maintenance dogs that do not need to be groomed frequently. As compared to any hairy breed they don’t need high grooming. They don’t get dirty easily, regular brushing and monthly bathing is enough to keep their coat clean.

Do Dobermans turn on their owner?

Many people think that Dobermans are too aggressive or dangerous. In a few cases, they also attacked their owner but those dogs are not trained properly. Some of the Dobermans that are involved in those cases are also provoked. Generally Dobermans don’t attack their owner, In fact they are one of the most loyal dog breeds. A Doberman can go to any limits to protect his owner, So if you love your dog and treat him nicely he will never attack anybody in the family. It just needs consistent training and early socialization to avoid aggression in them.

Is it easy to train a Doberman Pinscher?

Yes, due to their high intelligence Doberman Pinschers are quite easy to train. You can teach them new tricks, they can easily understand and follow your commands. Training is one of the best parts of owning a Doberman because it is really fun to train them. They don’t get tired easily from training however they can get bored, so you have to give them treats after any success. Dobermans can understand human emotions better than any other dog breeds. However still  I don’t recommend you to own a Doberman if you are a first-time dog owner because of their behavioral problems.

How often Dobermans require a bath?

As mentioned earlier, due to the short-haired coat of Doberman they don’t shed too much and also they don’t get dirty or filthy easily. So you don’t need to bathe them too frequently, bathing them once a month would be fine. If your dog spends more time outdoors and gets dirty easily then you can bathe them whenever they got their coat filthy.

Are Dobermans loyal?

Yes, Doberman Pinschers are one of the most loyal dog breeds, they can go to any limits to protect their owner. They are always protective of their families. For example–  In Orisha a state in India, A Doberman has fought with four cobras till his last breath and killed all of them, In order to save his family. The dog fought till last until he killed all four of them. By killing those Cobras he saved his family but Unfortunately, the dog died because he shed the excess of blood.
